Holidays can be stressful for families with low or fixed incomes, often forcing parents to prioritize basic necessities over special meals or gifts for their children. This festive season, we’re committed to ensuring all Girls Inc. families can enjoy their holidays! By providing support, we hope to bring joy and relief during the holidays.

What We’re Asking For
We are seeking monetary donations to support families.
Why Monetary Donations?
Every child has unique wants, needs, and interests. Monetary donations allow parents/guardians to choose the perfect gifts for their children, whether it’s a new toy, game, clothing, or shoes that fit just right.
Recommended Contributions: Select the family size you want to support. $50 per family member for groceries and $75 per child for gifts.
Family Types: Our families include both single parents/guardians and couples. We only ask for grocery donations for adults, not gifts.
Ensuring Genuine Need
Only families approved through our rigorous subsidy program requirements receive Hampers. Girls Inc. of York Region carefully reviews all applicants’ income to ensure that those who receive subsidies meet the “low income” criteria, guaranteeing that your support reaches those who truly need it.
Supporting the Whole Family
At Girls Inc., we believe in supporting the whole girl. This means empowering girls in their education, mental and physical health, social and emotional skills, and helping provide the necessities for them to thrive. During the holiday season, we extend this support to their families, ensuring that all children in the home receive gifts.
What’s Included in a Holiday Hamper?
Thanks to our generous sponsors and community supporters, the baskets include:
- Gift Cards
- Warm socks and mittens for each child
- A family gift (e.g., board games)
- Personal hygiene items (e.g., shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, lotions, lip balm, toothpaste, and toothbrushes) for each family member
- A sweet treat (e.g., holiday chocolate, gingerbread house)

Giving Guidelines
By sponsoring a Holiday Hamper, you are ensuring that Girls Inc. participants in low-income families get the holiday celebration they otherwise may not.
We have provided some guidelines below so that you’re able to decide which size family best suits your budget to sponsor. To ensure each family is adequately supported, we are asking for $75 per child for gifts and $50 per individual in the family for groceries.
*Some families have 1-2 parents/guardians in the home. It is up to your discretion whether you’d like to sponsor a single or dual-parent/guardian family
