Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Girls Incorporated® of York Region!  We have a number of opportunities for volunteers interested in giving their time once a week, once a month, or once a year.  All of our regular volunteer opportunities are open to people 18 years of age and over.  Special volunteer opportunities exist for high school students (grades 9-12).

Our volunteer opportunities include:

Board of Directors
An organizational support position for volunteers interested in business planning, policy development, agency governance, and fund development. Board members are essential for non-profit governance, and work with the Executive Director to deliver on the agency mission.
Commitment: monthly board meetings (event support and committee work is also encouraged)

Program Facilitator
A position working directly with girls in a group setting delivering age-appropriate programs that focus on areas such as body image, peer pressure, bullying, substance abuse prevention, media awareness, and economic literacy.  Commitment: once a week

Program Leader for girls ages 12-18 (Youth Leadership)
A position working directly with girls in a group setting assisting with the delivery of age-appropriate programs that focus on areas such as body image, media awareness, economic literacy, and sports.
Commitment: once a week or once a month

Program Leader for girls ages 4-11
A position working directly with girls in a group setting assisting with the delivery of age-appropriate programs that focus on areas such as body image, economic literacy, and sports.
Commitment: once a week or once a month

Workshop Facilitators
A position working with girls and their guardians in a one-day or weekend workshop dedicated to healthy adolescent development. 
Commitment: 5 times a year

Committee Members
An organizational support position for volunteers interested in active participation on one of the following committees: Hartwell Scholarship, Outcome Measurements, Nominating, Fund Development, Business Planning, Special Events, Fundraising Events (Howl on the Hill, Auction, new events) and Communications.
Commitment: varies by committee, seasonal and yearly

Special Events
A versatile position to help with Girls Inc. events such as the annual Halloween Howl on the Hill, our Holiday Party, and our annual picnic for girls.
Commitment: once a year

Office Volunteer
A position within our office, located at 80 George Street in Newmarket, performing duties that include answering phones, filing, mail-outs, and newsletter production.
Commitment: open

Student Volunteer
Opportunities are available for students looking to fulfill their 40 hours of community involvement.  Positions include working with younger girls in reading programs, after-school programs, and special events.  Students will not be accepted last minute.
