Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Girls Incorporated of York Region! We have a number of opportunities for volunteers interested in giving their time once a week, once a month, or once a year. All of our regular volunteer opportunities are open to people 18 years of age and over. Special volunteer opportunities exist for high school students (grades 9-12).

Open volunteer opportunities:

Special Events
A versatile position to help with Girls Inc. events such as the annual Cultural Celebration, Zombie Run, Garage Sale, Diva Ball, and our annual Girl's Rights Week event.
Commitment: 4-6 events annually

Student Volunteer
Opportunities are available for both male and female students looking to fulfill their 40 hours of community involvement. Positions include working with younger girls in after-school programs, research for programs, office maintenance and special events. Students will not be accepted last minute.

Commitment: open (position available Monday-Friday 9:00am-7:00pm)

Office Administration Volunteer
A position within our office, located at 80 George Street in Newmarket, performing duties that include answering phones, filing, and general office administration maintenance
Commitment: open (position available Monday-Friday 9:00am-4:00pm)

Committee Members
A support position for volunteers interested in active participation in the community on one of the following committees: Fund Development (soliciting donations, sponsorships and identifying potential funders), Special Events (brain-storming and planning specific aspects of the event), Nominating (recruit board members, select annual Girl's Awards receipients), Outcome Measurements (project management, statistical analysis).
Commitment: varies by committee, seasonal and annually

Board of Directors
Board members are essential for non-profit governance, and work with the Executive Director to deliver on the agency mission. An organizational support position for volunteers interested in business planning, policy development, agency governance, and fund development.
Commitment: monthly board meetings and special event attendance

Program Facilitator Assistant (ages 9-11)
A position working directly with girls in a group setting delivering age-appropriate programs that focus on areas such as body image, peer pressure, bullying, substance abuse prevention, media awareness, and economic literacy.

Commitment: 1-3 evenings per week (4:00pm-7:00pm)

Program Facilitator Assistant (ages 12-15 -Youth Leadership)
A position working directly with girls in a group setting assisting with the delivery of age-appropriate programs that focus on areas such as body image, media awareness, economic literacy, and sports.
Commitment: 1-3 evenings per week (4:00pm-7:00pm)

Workshop Facilitator Assistant
A position working with girls and their parents /  guardians in a one-day, four-day or weekend workshop dedicated to healthy adolescent development.
Commitment: 1-4 per month (during school hours or evenings)
